Dear Students and Community,
It is with great sadness that we announce that after nearly 5 years The Yoga Room will be closing on March 27, 2021.
There is no way to capture in a letter the magnitude of what has transpired the entire past year, and the effects of the pandemic on our small business. The decision to close after nearly 5 wonderful years has been a practice of surrendering to the realities of what is.
The compounding pressures of losing much of our student base, closing our beautiful studio to public classes due to COVID-19, transitioning to fewer and socially distanced in-person classes, and additionally pivoting to an online platform, has taken its toll, and we have held out as long as possible. This has been an incredibly hard decision for us, but we do not see a sustainable future, even as the pandemic begins to recede.
When we modestly started The Yoga Room in May 2016 in the large room across from Dance Factory in Fairlawn Plaza, (ironically the same room we are in now), it was simply a pop-up space to share the gift of yoga with whoever showed up. Never did we imagine we would build an actual studio, nor to encounter so many people who have become so near and dear to our hearts. We will forever cherish all that was created and transformed, within our studio, and within our hearts.
Our last day of in person classes will be Saturday, March 27th, 2021. Please use up your class passes before then. If you have a monthly membership, know that it does not auto-renew. We are unable to issue refunds. If you know you cannot use up the remainder of your class passes, over the next 8 weeks, you may either transfer them to a friend or join our private Facebook group to access hundreds of recorded classes through the end of May 2021. Please send us an email if you would like to take either of these options.
Our last LIVE class on our private Facebook streaming group will be Wednesday, March 31st. As a thank you to our online members who have been paying and are up to date, we will keep the group page active and available to you through May 31, 2021, at no additional charge. You can continue to access all the recorded classes at your leisure for two additional months.
We hope you will continue to join us for classes, either in-person or online these next couple months. Please share your memories of what The Yoga Room has meant to you.
Please feel free to email us at theyogarooomtopeka.com with any questions. After The Yoga Room closes, please continue to support your teachers. All of us can be found on Facebook and other social media platforms.
It has truly been one of our biggest honors and privileges to be of service and to hold space for The Yoga Room community. We are grateful to our amazing teachers, and to each of you — the students who made The Yoga Room thrive into the most amazing, supportive community we could have imagined. It is our greatest wish that you will continue your practice, and that the legacy of The Yoga Room lives on through your self-care practices.
IN SERVICE AND WITH DEEP GRATITUDE,
ANGELA & BRENDA
LIMITED CLASS SCHEDULE
Due to the virus, The Yoga Room is currently offering a LIMITED SCHEDULE for in-person classes.
Masks required to enter. As of July 3, the governor has updated Kansas to wearing masks in public spaces. Students must wear a mask to enter the studio and leave it on until we start moving, at which time it can be removed and placed next to your mat. When class is over please put your mask back on as you roll up your mat and gather your things.
Online Streaming classes will continue M-Th at 9am in our private FB group "The Yoga Room at Fairlawn Streaming." Please purchase a Monthly Online Streaming pass to access online classes. After purchasing your pass, search for the Facebook group and request to join. All online classes are saved so you can watch them at your convenience.
NO DROP INs will be allowed for in-person classes. All students must register and pay in advance (via the mindbody app), and sign the updated waiver online. No payments will be taken in the practice room. This is for your safety, as well as ours. If you do not have a mindbody account, go to the “Schedule” tab and click the mindbody link at the top. You will need to create a mindbody account (email or Facebook message us if you need assistance).
ALL in-person classes have been RELOCATED the large empty room across from Dance Factory, located inside Fairlawn Plaza Mall on the east end, until further notice.
No mats or props will be provided. Students are required to bring their own mat and props (props optional). This is for your safety. Please maintain social distancing between yoga mats.
In order for us to provide the safest yoga experience possible, we ask that that you answer the following questions truthfully each time you plan to attend public classes:
Have you traveled outside of the state in the past 2 weeks?
Have you had contact with a person with known or suspected COVID-19?
In the past 2 weeks have you experienced:
Fever (greater than 100.4), chills, rigors (shaking),
Cough, sore throat, or shortness of breath
Body aches (myalgia)
Change in sense of smell or taste
If the answer is yes to any of these questions, seek care through your primary health care provider and stay home!
Please be patient during this transition period as we cautiously ease back into providing a full schedule. We will continue to review evolving local, state, and federal guidelines to assure compliance with these standards.
